A delegation led by Xi Jiangtao, pro vice-chancellor (global) of the University of Wollongong, visited the University of Macau (UM) on 20 May and was warmly received by Yonghua Song, rector of UM. The two parties held in-depth discussions on strengthening their partnership, developing joint talent development programmes, and advancing research and innovation. They also reached a consensus on cooperation.

Song provided an overview of UM’s latest developments, including its vision for the campus in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. He highlighted UM’s strategic focus on technological innovation and interdisciplinary talent cultivation. He also outlined potential areas of cooperation with the University of Wollongong, such as materials science, engineering, and physical sciences. Xi said that the two universities possess complementary strengths and shared goals. He expressed hope that their cooperation in research and innovation and the cultivation of high-calibre talent will continue to deepen and achieve great outcomes.

During the visit, the delegation toured the laboratories and research facilities of the UM Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering, where they learned about the institute’s advanced equipment, research achievements, talent cultivation model, and development plans.
