The University of Macau (UM) held a sharing session on the first session of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC) and the first session of the 14th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee (‘two sessions’) on 25 March. Titled ‘Learning about the “Two Sessions” 2026’, the sharing session aimed to explore the significance of the ‘two sessions’ and their key takeaways, and to enable students and faculty members to learn about the country’s political, economic, and societal development. Guest speakers at the event included Ho Kevin King Lun and Chan Hong, Macao SAR deputies to the 14th NPC, as well as Mok Chi Wai, a member of the 14th CPPCC National Committee.

The event was attended by Lam Kam Seng Peter, chair of the University Council of UM; Mok Kai Meng, vice rector of UM; college masters of residential colleges; and heads of units. Speaking at the event, Mok said that UM is committed to promoting national education on all fronts. This includes initiatives such as training student ambassadors, holding exhibitions, setting up the Student Workgroup for the Enhancement of Affection for Home Country, and sending students to take part in competitions on national education. The university has also formed partnerships with institutions in the Chinese mainland, sending outstanding students and student leaders there for exchange programmes to broaden their horizons and enhance their sense of national identity and belonging.

During the sharing session, Ho outlined the overall situation regarding the Macao delegation and their proposals at this year’s ‘two sessions’. Chan presented the seven major objectives set out in the 15th Five-Year Plan and discussed the development of emerging industries and industries of the future. Mok detailed the role of the CPPCC National Committee and the handling of proposals.
