Ma Zhihao, a PhD student from the Department of Communication, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Macau (UM), received a Top 10 Paper Award at the 11th China Health Communication Conference, held at Tsinghua University, Beijing, on 3 December.  His research paper, titled ‘Social Capital, Internet Use, and Health: an Empirical Study Based on CFPS’, discusses the disparity in mental health status among internet users. The paper is part of the UM-funded research project, ‘New Media and Social Integration: Mobile Phone Use in China’s Countryside’, led by Prof Wu Mei from the Department of Communication.

The China Health Communication Conference is a leading conference in the field of health communication in China. It is under the direction of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, and is co-organised by the Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, the Chinese Centre for Health Education, and the Research Centre for Public Health at Tsinghua University.
