The University of Macau (UM) and Zhejiang University (ZJU) today (12 July) held a plaque unveiling ceremony for their Joint Research Centre for Smart Government and Joint Research Centre for Financial Innovation. Through the new centres, both parties hope to combine their academic strengths and resources to carry out innovative research in the areas of smart government and financial innovation, in order to extend the frontiers of science and technology and to promote each other’s research and technological development in related scientific fields.

Witnessed by Yonghua Song, rector of UM, and Ren Shaobo, party secretary of ZJU, representatives of the two universities, namely Hu Weixing, dean of UM’s Faculty of Social Sciences, and Zhang Weiwen, associate dean of ZJU’s School of Public Affairs, signed a framework agreement on the establishment of the centre for smart government. Michael Hui, vice rector of UM and interim director of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Economics and Management; Ben Shenglin, dean of ZJU’s International Business School; and Pan Shiyuan, associate dean of ZJU’s School of Economics, signed a framework agreement on the establishment of the centre for financial innovation. After the signing ceremony, Song and Ren officiated at the plaque unveiling ceremony for the two centres.

Following the ceremony, members of the delegation visited the UM Gallery and the UM Wu Yee Sun Library, where Ren donated a set of books to the university. The delegation also toured the State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI, the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City, and Choi Kai Yau College.
