At the eighth Chinagraph Conference (Chinagraph’2010), a paper by Zhu Jian, a PhD student of the Department of Computer and Information Science, Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), the University of Macau (UM), stood out from a total of 242 submissions and received an excellent paper award. The other two papers that also won the excellent paper awards were from the Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Zhejiang University, respectively.

The conference received extensive support and response from domestic and foreign researchers in related fields. More than 300 scholars from renowned research institutions and universities, including Chinese Academy of Sciences, Microsoft Research Asia, Tsinghua University, Peking University, Zhejiang University and Nanjing University, attended the conference. The conference received a total of 242 submissions, most of which were from doctoral research works and covered a variety of research topics on computer graphics. After an extensive peer review by the programme committee, 50 high-level papers were selected for recommendation for publication in Science in China, Journal of Computers, Journal of Software, Journal of Computer Aided Design and Computer Graphics, and International Journal of Virtual Reality. 34 papers were selected for presentation at the conference. Finally, three best papers were voted as recipients of the Excellent Paper Award.

The paper entitled “Simulation of Solid Burning Phenomenon in Real-time”, by Mr. Zhu Jian, won an excellent paper award. The other two papers that also won the excellent paper awards were from the Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Zhejiang University, respectively. Mr. Zhu’s work was supervised by Prof. Wu Enhua, who is the associate dean of FST and winner of the Chinagraph CG Achievements Award at Chinagraph in 2002.

Chinagraph, co-sponsored by National Natural Science Foundation of China, China Computer Federation, Chinese Association of Automation, Chinese Association for System Simulation, China Society of Image and Graphics, China Engineering Graphics Society and Hong Kong Society for Multimedia and Image Computing, is a top-level academic conference on computer graphics in China. It has become an important forum for Chinese scholars in the field of computer graphics.

The most important domestic journals on computer science and engineering, including Science in China, Journal of Computers, Journal of Software, Journal of Computer Aided Design and Computer Graphics, provide their special issue(s) for publishing the papers selected from the conference. The Chinagraph Conference is held biannually and the first conference took place in 1996. Each time two to four excellent papers are awarded through voting by the conference committee. In 2000, two professional awards, Chinagraph CG Achievements Award and Chinagraph CG Outstanding Contribution Award, were set up, each granted to a distinguished professional in the field of China CG. Recipients of the two awards are also selected through voting by the conference committee.
