Macau's Most Talented Animals Escape!

A Publication Launch for
Articreature - UM BRIDGES 2008 Spring
Mon, 2 June 2008
12:30 – 14:00 P.M.
 University of Macau

Articreature: UM Bridges 2008 Spring is a publication that explores the arts and culture in and beyond Macau. This publication will be launched on Mon, 2 June 2008, 12:30 - 14:00 p.m., at University of Macau, Tai Fung Building Platform,

The Manifesto for Articreature reads as follows:

Imperfection is beautiful.
Ecology is equilibrium.
Losing is a way to find.
A square is firm but flexible.
Art is a playground for enriching culture and history.
Interaction is a key to build relationship.
Bring out those animal instincts.

The above list embodies the spirits and guiding principles of the publication.  Inspired by the Japanese concept of wabi sabi, which regards beauty in things imperfect, impermanent and incomplete, Articreature allows the creative process to evolve and also leaves some rough edges, some humanity, to thrive.

Articreature invites readers to lose their previous conceptions about life and play in the “square ground” (referring to the shape of the publication), so as to rediscover life, re-trace their instincts and stir their mental ecology of ideas.

Compared to previous UM Bridges versions, there are innovations in the magazine’s theme, content, design and target audience. For the first time in the publication’s history, this issue has a theme Articeature that spurs the innovation in editorial and art directions.

The highlights in the magazine include the following sections:

  1. Indigenous Creatures (the unique cultures of Macau),
  2. From the Red Dog Beer (Q & A interviews with leading artists of Macau),
  3. Metallic Zoo (commentary on critical issues in our daily life),
  4. Artic circus (introduction to arts in different aspects, such as performing art, visual art)
  5. Photo Spreads (a series of the most powerful images by students and Macau residents)

In-conjunction with the publication launch, there will be a photo exhibition from the art our Open Call for Submission. The Most Popular Photo and The Best Photo will be announced and awarded during the launch. The online version of Articreature will also be launched then.

The publication is produced by Year 4 English Communication students of University of Macau, who publish the magazine as a platform to develop their talents and skills in reporting, arts and photography.
