Flying Beyond the Secret of Darkness

By Cathy Lai

In order to raise people’s attention to the blind, Macau Museum of Art hosted an exhibition, “Flying Beyond The Secrets of Darkness”, created by the students of the Children’s Art Course from 8 December, 2007 to 7April, 2008.

The students, from seven to nine years old, were given an opportunity to exhibit their art works created after the mental exploration through the world of the blind under the lecturers’ explanation and guidance. By recycling garbage such as plastic bottle, wheels and cartons, students created colorful abstracts which put the visitors into a memorable and engrossing journey.

“I want to see colorful things and hear clearly at the same time!” says Ho Wai Chung, one of the students of the course, waving his colorful plastic bottle with the red bean ramming inside.

Visitors could also try the interesting games in the activity zone, which led the visitors into a cave in utter darkness decorated by the students who hanged ropes on the ceiling and placed obstacles made by clothes and paper on the floor to create a rough and uneven trail for the visitors.

Through the participation of this game, visitor could experience utter darkness while contemplating how lucky they were to be able to see the beautiful things of their life.
