The first GBA career and internship Fair for university students in Macao was held today (11 September) at the University of Macau (UM). During the event, over 100 well-known companies in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) provided more than 2,000 job vacancies for university students in Macao. Billy So, vice rector (student affairs) of UM, says that UM dedicates itself to nurturing skilled workers for Macao, GBA, and China, adding that the fair provided a good platform for GBA companies to recruit Macao students who match their needs.

Many well-known companies in the GBA, including Tencent, Huafa Group, Midea, Gree, St Regis Hotel and Sheraton, provided job vacancies in various fields, including tourism, network technology, and health sciences. Billy So believes that the career fair will make Macao students more inclined to consider working in the GBA, adding that it is one of the initiatives of UM to participate in the GBA’s development. Students say that the event provided very good information for those who plan to work in the GBA, adding that many GBA cities have launched employment incentives to attract skilled workers.

UM has been working hard to encourage students to seek job opportunities in the GBA. Every year, the university arranges for students to participate in career fairs held in GBA cities to help them learn more about job opportunities there. In addition, this year UM initiated an internship programme in the GBA. With the support of government departments and well-known companies in the GBA, participants gained valuable job experience and learned more about the GBA’s development through the summer internships.
