Students of the University of Macau (UM) achieved outstanding results in the essay competition ‘For National Liberation and World Peace – Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War’. Among the awardees, Ip Cheng Man, a student from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and Chao Kuang Piu College, and Huang Qianchen, a student from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Moon Chun Memorial College, won first prizes for their insightful perspectives and compelling writing.

The competition was co-organised by the Education and Youth Development Bureau of the Macao SAR government. The award ceremony was held in Beijing, with O Lam, secretary for social affairs and culture, among the guests who presented awards. A total of 18 UM students received honours, including two first prizes, one second prize, three third prizes, five merit awards, and seven finalist awards. Paul Pang, faculty adviser for the competition and dean of Students at UM, also received first, second, and third prizes in the adviser category.

Pang said that the awards not only recognised the outstanding performance of UM students, but also reflected the university’s achievements in nurturing students’ sense of patriotism and social responsibility. He added that UM will continue to provide diverse learning opportunities, encourage students to engage deeply with history and society, and support them in contributing to the development of the country and Macao.
