The University of Macau (UM) organised a group of 24 faculty and staff members involved in student affairs to attend the 10th Hengqin Professional Civil and Commercial Mediator Training Course (for Macao Candidates). The training aimed to strengthen participants’ communication skills, enhance their ability to mediate disputes, and further improve student support services. The course provided an overview of professional mediation procedures and frameworks, enabling participants to develop a solid understanding of civil and commercial mediation practices. Staff were encouraged to apply these mediation skills in their daily work, helping to foster a positive communication culture on campus, improve the handling of student‑related disputes, and promote effective interpersonal communication.

Liu Jingjing, associate master of Shiu Pong College, and Angel Tang, associate master of Cheong Kun Lun College, were among the participants. Liu said that the course not only deepened participants’ understanding of the current mediation system but also equipped them with practical mediation techniques. Tang noted that mediators must remain neutral when handling disputes, adding that this requires not only a sound legal foundation but also active listening skills and psychological awareness to help build consensus among the parties involved.
