Both the Mandarin Debating Team and Cantonese Debating Team of the University of Macau (UM) clinched the championship titles at the 23rd Macao Inter-University Debate Competition. This marks the 12th championship for the Mandarin Debating Team and the 15th for the Cantonese Debating Team in the competition.

In the Mandarin category, the UM Mandarin Debating Team overcame Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) and Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) in the preliminary rounds, and then defeated MUST again in the semi-finals. Zhang Yupeng, a student from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and Cheong Kun Lun College, was awarded ‘Best Debater’ in all three rounds. In the final, UM faced City University of Macau and secured a 5-0 victory, achieving a four-year winning streak as well as their 12th championship title. Zhou Linqin, a postgraduate student from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, was named ‘Best Debater’ in the final.

In the Cantonese category, the UM Cantonese Debating Team defeated MUST and MPU in the preliminary rounds. In the final, UM once again faced MUST, winning with a decisive score of 5-0 to claim the championship title. U Wai Wang, a student from the Faculty of Law and Ma Man Kei and Lo Pak Sam College, received the ‘Best Debater’ award in both the preliminary rounds and the final.
