The Mandarin Debating Team of the University of Macau (UM) won the championship in the final of the 2025 Asia-Pacific Youth Debate Championship held in Sichuan Province on 5 October. Zhou Linqin, a student in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, was awarded the ‘Best Debater’ title three times throughout the whole championship, including in the final.
The UM Mandarin Debating Team reached the final after winning all three of their preliminary and semi-final rounds against teams from Sichuan University of Media and Communications, Chongqing University, and Xi’an Jiaotong University. In the final, facing Sichuan University of Media and Communications once again, the UM debaters impressed the judges with their rigorous logic, fluent delivery, and solid arguments, securing the championship title.
The members of the UM Mandarin Debating Team who participated in the debate championship were: Zhou Linqin (Faculty of Arts and Humanities), Huang Chenyi (Faculty of Education/Lui Che Woo College), Zhang Fan (Faculty of Law), Lam Cheok Seng (Faculty of Business Administration/Cheng Yu Tung College), and Fang Ruiyu (Faculty of Science and Technology/Cheng Yu Tung College).
