A delegation led by Yin Hejun, minister of science and technology, visited the University of Macau (UM) on 27 August and was warmly received by Yonghua Song, rector of UM. The delegation toured the State Key Laboratories (SKLs) at UM to learn about their research advancements and held in-depth discussions with UM representatives on technological innovation and regional cooperation.

The delegation toured the State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI (SKL-AMSV) and the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City (SKL-IOTSC), where they gained a deeper understanding of UM’s research breakthroughs in areas including integrated circuit design and Internet of Things technology and their practical applications.

In addition, a meeting was held between representatives from the Ministry of Science and Technology and UM. Song provided a detailed overview of UM’s development and academic layout, its plans and progress of conducting teaching activities in the Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, as well as its industry-academia collaboration.

After listening to the report, Yin gave full recognition of UM’s contributions to technological innovation and cross-border cooperation. He said that UM should further integrate into the national innovation system and help build the country into a global leader in science and technology, while leveraging its strengths in science and technology to drive Macao’s diversified development. The university should also capitalise on Macao’s strengths to serve the country’s needs, and leverage Macao’s advantages as an international city to attract more international science and technology talent to the country.
