Members of the Public Speaking Team and the English Debating Team of the University of Macau (UM) achieved outstanding results at the 2026 China Universities Speech and Debate Championships, held in Shanghai. The UM teams won one runner-up title, three second runner-up titles, two first prizes, one second prize, and one third prize, making UM the university with the highest number of awards at the competition. In recognition of their exceptional performances, three UM students—Chang Wang Kit, Lo Oi Lam, and Tao Zhaoyu—were selected to join the national university speech team to represent China in international English speech competitions.

In the Original Oratory category, Chang Wang Kit won the runner-up title, while Lo Oi Lam and Tao Zhaoyu each secured a second runner‑up title. One first prize and two second prizes were also awarded to UM students in this category.

In the British Parliamentary category, UM teams won one second runner‑up title and one third prize.

The teams were led by Chan Ka Lon, coach of the UM Public Speaking Team and an instructor at the English Language Centre. He noted that all participating students are core team members who actively take part in competitions and university speech events, and contribute to English education and cultural exchange at UM.
