A delegation led by Joe Chicharo, vice president of the University of Wollongong (UOW), visited the University of Macau (UM) today (1 December). UM Rector Yonghua Song and Vice Rector Rui Martins warmly received the delegation. The two parties held in-depth discussions on strengthening cooperation, expanding talent development, and promoting scientific research and innovation.

Song gave the delegation an overview of UM’s latest developments and its vision for the campus in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. He also explained UM’s strategic plans for science and technology innovation and interdisciplinary talent cultivation, as well as the progress of its collaboration with UOW. Chicharo highlighted UOW’s commitment to teaching excellence and student success, along with its global strengths in fields such as law, engineering, education, and the physical sciences. He also expressed hope for strengthening cooperation with UM to advance research and academic innovation.

The delegation also visited the State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI and the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City, where they learned about UM’s recent research achievements, talent cultivation approach, research layout, and plans for the campus in the Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. Chicharo spoke highly of UM’s achievements.
