The Mandarin Debating Team of the University of Macau (UM) was crowned champion at the 2025 Wumahe National University Debate Open held in Shanxi Province. They defeated their opponents in the final on 29 September with a resounding 7-0 victory. Zhang Yupeng was named the ‘Overall Best Debater’, and Hu Zuming was named the ‘Best Debater’ in the final.
In the preliminary rounds, the UM Mandarin Debating Team won their opening match against Xinjiang Normal University, but lost their second match to Beijing Normal University. They then secured their place in the quarter-final by defeating Renmin University of China in the repechage round. The UM team went on to earn a place in the final by winning their quarter-final and semi-final matches against Wuhan University and Sichuan University, respectively. In the final, they triumphed over Beijing Normal University with a decisive 7-0 victory, claiming the championship title. Notably, Hu Zuming was awarded the ‘Best Debater’ title for his outstanding performance in the final.
The members of the UM Mandarin Debating Team who participated in the debate open were: Zhang Yupeng (Faculty of Arts and Humanities/Cheong Kun Lun College), Hu Zuming (Faculty of Law/Lui Che Woo College), Zheng Shixing (Faculty of Education/Cheng Yu Tung College), Fang Xiaoyu (Faculty of Arts and Humanities/Shiu Pong College), Lou Shuhao (Faculty of Business Administration/Choi Kai Yau College), and Fang Ruiyu (Faculty of Science and Technology/Cheng Yu Tung College).
