The University of Macau (UM) recently held a convocation at the Sports Complex on the new campus to welcome new students. At the ceremony, UM Rector Wei Zhao encouraged all students to find at least two mentors and to make at least three good friends during their time at UM.

Student Suki Cheung, a member of the UM Choir, performed at the convocation. Although the audio system experienced intermittent skips and pauses during her performance, she remained unaffected and continued her performance until the song was finished. Suki said that a professional artist has the responsibility to deliver a full performance under all circumstances. She added that the applause from the audience was very touching.

Student Deng Zhi Liang from the Faculty of Science and Technology said that he found Rector Wei Zhao’s speech very inspiring and he hopes to find his mentors and make good friends during his time at UM.

Student Minnie Liu from the Faculty of Business Administration, who has been living in the Shiu Pong College for a while, thinks that each residential college is like a small residential community with a unique culture and characteristics. She said that she enjoys living in the college with the other students.
