The University of Macau (UM) will hold a talk titled ‘Normandy Impressionism – The Birth of Impressionism’ on Tuesday 16 April as part of the University Lecture Series. Alain Tapié, founding president of L’association Peindre en Normandie and honorary curator of French museums, will be the speaker.

Impressionism originated in Normandy of France, a place renowned for its picturesque landscapes. As this year marks the 150th anniversary of the first Impressionist exhibition held in 1874, during the talk, Tapié will talk about the causes and outcomes of the exhibition, how Normandy influenced and inspired Impressionists, as well as the influence of Impressionism on later generations of artists.

The talk will begin at 3:30pm in the Multi-function Hall of the UM Guest House (N1-G014). It will be conducted in French with consecutive interpretation in Putonghua. All are welcome to attend.
