The Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) of the University of Macau (UM) held an orientation for the students of the third cohort of the Doctor of Public Administration (DPA) programme. This year’s programme admitted 30 elites from various sectors, including a member of the Legislative Assembly of the Macao SAR, a former Olympic gold medallist, corporate executives, managers of state-owned enterprises, and civil servants from the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and the Macao SAR government. Michael Hui, vice rector of UM, said that the university offers several applied PhD programmes for high-end talent development, among which the DPA programme is designed to cultivate public administration talent who possess both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. He expressed hope that the students will seize the learning opportunity at UM and promote academic research and the creation of think tanks in the field of public administration. Hu Weixing, dean of the FSS, introduced the content of the DPA programme and expressed hope that the students can apply their theoretical knowledge to practice and solve the problems existing in current public policies. The event was also attended by professors in the Department of Government and Public Administration and students from the first and second cohorts of the DPA programme.
