The State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City (SKL-IOTSC) of the University of Macau (UM) organised the first IOTSC Summer Camp for outstanding mainland university students, as part of the university’s efforts to promote study tours. Through academic exchanges and science popularisation activities, the summer camp aimed to create an academic exchange platform integrating theoretical learning and practical experience for the participants and enhance their understanding of the laboratory’s research focus and the university’s educational philosophy. More than 40 outstanding students from over 20 leading universities in the mainland as well as students from UM’s Faculty of Science and Technology participated in the summer camp. The participants were pursuing degree programmes in electronic engineering, communication engineering, computer science, automation, and ocean science.

Yonghua Song, rector of UM and director of SKL-IOTSC, said in his opening remarks that as an international comprehensive public university, UM is committed to producing creative and socially responsible graduates with a global mindset and international competitiveness, adding that the laboratory attaches great importance to talent cultivation and currently has more than 350 master’s students, PhD students, and post-doctoral fellows.

SKL-IOTSC prepared a wide range of interdisciplinary activities for the participants, including academic talks on topics such as smart grids, gaming theory, storm surges, and cutting-edge developments in disaster simulation, as well as interactive experiments involving simulation platforms and the operation of equipment. The laboratory also arranged for tours of the UM campus, the Zhuhai UM Science & Technology Research Institute, and some of Macao’s famous attractions to give the participants a better understanding of the university’s developments and Macao’s history and culture.
