The Institute of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Development Studies of Sun Yat-sen University, the Centre for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Studies of the University of Macau (UM), and Pan Sutong Shanghai-Hong Kong Economic Policy Research Institute of Lingnan University jointly held the Second International Academic Conference on Global Bay Area Development. Combining both virtual and in-person elements, the event attracted experts and scholars from China and abroad. In his speech, Hu Weixing, dean of UM’s Faculty of Social Sciences and director of the Centre for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Studies of UM, affirmed the importance and necessity of discussing issues related to the theme of the conference and said that institutional innovation is the key to the development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). The conference was organised around the theme of ‘Regional Cooperation and Institutional Innovation’, with a Hong Kong branch and five sub-forums, namely ‘Economic Sub-forum’, ‘Social Sub-forum’, ‘Communication Sub-forum’, ‘Political Sub-forum’, and ‘Legal Sub-forum’. During the event, participants gave presentations on the topics of the sub-forums and had in-depth discussions on issues related to the development of the GBA, including economic cooperation and industrial development, institutional development and regional governance, as well as international communication and cultural integration.
