According to the guidelines of the Education and Youth Development Bureau, starting 25 October, staff and students of higher education institutions in Macao will be required to show proof of having received at least the first dose of vaccine or proof of a negative COVID-19 test result obtained within the past 7 days, before entering their campuses.

The University of Macau (UM) will strictly enforce the latest guidelines issued by the Bureau and ensure that students show proof of having received at least the first dose of vaccine or proof of a negative test result obtained within the past 7 days before entering the campus (including classrooms, laboratories and colleges) and using campus facilities.

After the university resumes face-to-face teaching, students who are eligible for classroom learning but do not meet the above requirements will be deemed as ‘being absent from classes’. According to the university’s regulations, students who are absent from 20% or more of classes will not be allowed to sit for examinations.

Staff members who have not received the vaccine or cannot show proof of a negative test result obtained within the past 7 days will not be allowed to enter the workplace. Unfulfilled work days thus incurred will be (1) for faculty and staff, counted towards ‘unreasonably absent’ days, or (2) for research personnel such as postdocs, counted towards personal annual leave days.

Those who have been clinically evaluated by a physician as being unfit for vaccination or are advised to postpone taking the vaccine must present a physician’s certificate of unsuitability for vaccination.

In view of the current development of the epidemic, and to ensure the safety and health of students and faculty, the university strongly urges all staff and students to take advantage of the National Day holiday or the immediately following days to get vaccinated. At present, all existing vaccination sites provide vaccination service without requiring prior appointments. So please visit the vaccination sites in person to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
