A delegation led by Ho Iat Seng, chief executive of the Macao SAR, attended a conference on collaboration between Shanghai and Macao held in Shanghai today (4 June). During the conference, representatives of the University of Macau (UM) and the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) signed a framework agreement on academic exchange and collaboration. Under the agreement, both parties will collaborate on academic research, educational activities, student exchange, mutual visits of teaching and research personnel, and other areas, and will jointly promote the development of scientific research and higher education in Shanghai and Macao. 
The agreement was signed by Yonghua Song, rector of UM, and Chen Dongxiao, director of SIIS. The ceremony was witnessed by Ho Iat Seng, chief executive of the Macao SAR; Gong Zheng, mayor of Shanghai; Huang Liuquan, deputy director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council; Yao Jian, deputy director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Zong Ming, deputy mayor of Shanghai; Lei Wai Nong, secretary for economy and finance of Macao; Ao Ieong U, secretary for social affairs and culture of Macao; and Ma Chunlei, secretary-general of Shanghai.
The SIIS is a senior research institute and internationally renowned think tank affiliated with the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government. It has long been dedicated to the comprehensive study of contemporary international political, economic, diplomatic, and security issues. The institute also has deep expertise in the study of issues of Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, and has nurtured many outstanding research professionals who can adapt to the development of the new era.
