South China Quarterly (SCQ), a humanities and social sciences journal published by the University of Macau (UM), has been ranked third for the year 2020 (up one spot from the year 2019) among all academic journals published by higher education institutions in China, in terms of republication rate, according to the latest rankings released by Renmin University of China. In 2020, SCQ published a total of 59 articles, 21 of which were republished in full, accounting for 35.59 per cent of the total number of articles published in the same year. This year, 1,150 university journals were selected for ranking.

The republication rate mainly reflects the proportion of high-quality academic papers in a journal. Compared to other evaluation methods, the republication rate is more straightforward and does not contain indicators that are vulnerable to human manipulation.
