The University of Macau (UM) today (22 August) held an opening ceremony for its University Mall in the south of the new campus. The first campus shopping centre in Macao, the University Mall integrates dining, shopping, recreational, and postal functions to meet the day-to-day needs of the students living on campus. Commercial outlets that have already become operational in the mall include a restaurant, a supermarket, a pharmacy, a laundry shop, a bank, a book shop, and a travel agency. A post office is expected to open soon.

In his speech at the opening ceremony, UM Rector said that the University Mall should be able to meet the different needs of UM students and staff. Leona Lei, a second-year student from the Faculty of Education, said that she was impressed with the variety and the number of the shops available in the University Mall, noting its convenient location from the residential colleges and faculties.
