Hong Kong Wanchai District Councillor Yolanda Ng visited the University of Macau’s (UM) Pearl Jubilee College on 5 March 2012 to share her experience in community and public service.

Yolanda was elected Wanchai District Councillor in 2007 and re-elected in 2011 with overwhelming support. In addition to being a district councillor, she has held a number of other public service positions in Hong Kong and mainland China, including part-time member of the Central Policy Unit of the Hong Kong SAR government, member of the Hong Kong Council of Smoking and Health, member of the Advisory Council on the Environment, member of the Commission on Youth, and invited Hong Kong representative of the National Association of Women’s Affairs of China. Despite her busy schedule, she is actively involved in managerial positions in numerous civic organizations.

Before working at public positions, Yolanda worked as a newspaper journalist and a radio station production assistant for many years. Later she co-launched an Internet-based radio station and a production company with her friends. In 2011, she published a book entitled “After Giving Up: Real-life Cases of Teenage Girls’ Abortions”, which was based on her interviews with some teenage girls who had had abortions. Her purpose of publishing the book was to help those girls heal their deep, invisible wounds, and also to warn other girls to exercise extra caution in choosing friends to avoid painful consequences.
