The University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Arts and Humanities recently held an event titled ‘Theatre of Macao: Eastern and Western Synergies and Imaginations’, in hopes of increasing students’ interest in theatre and literature. During the two-day event, eight scholars and experts in literary studies, namely University of Hull Professor Emeritus Terry Hale, the local playwright Miguel de Senna Fernandes, Macao Conservatory’s Theatre School Head Lawrence Lei, the French poet Béatrice Machet, the Chinese writer Joe Tang, and UM professors Keith Appler, Matthew Gibson, and Katrine Wong, gave talks and workshops on theatre, history, art, and literature.
