Chinese orchestras of UM and University of Malaya give joint performance

The University of Macau (UM) Chinese Orchestra and the University of Malaya Chinese Orchestra recently jointly gave a concert to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and the 20th anniversary of the Macao SAR.

This is the first collaboration between the two orchestras. As a response to the call for cultural exchange under China’s ‘Belt and Road’ strategy, the collaboration provided an opportunity for students from Macao and Malaysia to build friendships. Zhao Zhixuan, vice president of the UM Chinese Orchestra, says that she could feel Malaysian students’ passion for Chinese orchestral music and their strong wish to pass down this traditional culture. Cheong Kai Bin, president of the University of Malaya Chinese Orchestra, says that the concert helped the students learn more about music and culture and hopes that the two orchestras will collaborate again in the future.
