The University of Macau (UM) Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) recently held a closing ceremony for its first Certificate Course in Teaching Phonics to Young Learners. 29 students received certificates at the ceremony. This is the first time that the CCE and the Phonics Education Association Limited (PEA) have jointly offered this course, which aims to help create more jobs in the education sector in Macao and to train pre-school teachers who are interested in teaching phonics to pre-school children.

CCE Director Prof Matthew Liu Tingchi said at the ceremony that the course prepares students for international certification, which will in turn help to enhance the quality of English education in Macao. According to Prof Liu, the CCE will continue to collaborate with its partners in the future to offer courses designed to improve the competitiveness of professionals in different industries.

The second edition of the course, which will start in October, is now open for applications. For more information, please call 8822 4545 or email to cce.enquiry@um.edu.mo.
