UM releases results of first Chinese History and Culture Perceptions Index Survey for Primary and Secondary School Students in Macao

The University of Macau (UM) Centre for Chinese History and Culture today (28 March) held a launch ceremony for the first Chinese History and Culture Perceptions Index Survey for Primary and Secondary School Students in Macao and at the same occasion released the survey results. The survey aims to measure scientifically local primary and secondary school students’ perceptions of the status of China and levels of understanding of Chinese history and culture. A random sample of over 1,700 primary and secondary school students from Macao was surveyed between December 2017 and January 2018.

Guests officiated at the ceremony included Xu Ting, head of the Department of Education and Youth Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government; Wong Kin Mou, acting deputy director of the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau; Ho Siu Kam, president of the Chinese Educators Association of Macau; Yonghua Song, rector of UM; Lionel Ni, vice rector (academic affairs) of UM; and Hao Yufan, dean of UM’s Faculty of Social Sciences and director of the Centre for Chinese History and Culture. Attendees in the ceremony included representatives of local primary and secondary schools as well as prominent members of the community.

During the same event, a launch ceremony was held for a newspaper designed for Macao teenagers. Founded by UM’s Centre for Chinese History and Culture, the newspaper aims to help local teenagers learn more about Chinese history and culture and strengthen their national identity.
