The University of Macau’s (UM) Department of Portuguese will hold the Portuguese Language Day on Monday 18 April. The event will take place in two sessions, from 10:00am to 12:00pm, and from 3:00pm to 6:00pm.

This year’s event will kick off with an open lecture on learning Portuguese as a foreign language, presented by two graduating students from the department. The lecture will be followed by a presentation of UM’s Portuguese studies programmes. The two activities aim to provide some information about the teaching and learning of Portuguese language and culture at UM.

In addition to a Portuguese food festival, and singing and drama performances by students, there will also be the second edition of the Portuguese Language on-Campus Challenge and a guest performance by Josefina Lee dos Santos, a young UM alumna from the Department of Portuguese, who now works as an artist in Hong Kong.

The Portuguese Language Day is an annual event of UM that offers non-academic activities for Portuguese language learners. It aims to stimulate students’ interest in the Portuguese language and the diverse cultures of Portuguese-speaking countries by creating a comfortable and relaxing environment for Portuguese learners to practice the language with their teachers.
