A science promotion workshop co-organized by the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of the University of Macau (UM) and Pui Ching Middle School was held in Pui Ching Middle School on 4 July, 2009. The workshop is designed for science teachers from local high schools with the aim of updating them on the latest technology development trend in recent years as well as providing them with more information on college admissions and the job market so that they can counsel students more flexibly. The workshop attracted teachers from ten local high schools.

The speakers included heads of four departments of FST, namely Prof. Tam Lap Mou (Electromechanical Engineering), Prof. Vai Mang I (Electrical and Electronics Engineering), Prof. Gong Zhiguo (Computer and information Science), and Prof. Yuen Ka Veng (Civil and Environmental Engineering). At the workshop the four speakers gave brief information on their respective departments as well as some representative research projects of UM, including nano-technology, internet search engines, electrical and electronics engineering, and air quality prediction. They also forecasted the outlook for the job market for students from different departments, and gave brief information on FST graduates who currently work in government departments and high-tech companies.
