The University of Macau’s (UM) English Language Centre (ELC) has kicked off the Spring Semester Events in an effort to provide more opportunities for students to practice English.

Three events – Bowling Night, Game Evening with Marie: Stop the Bus and Tongue Twisters, and Playing Pool – have been held so far, on 21 February, 27 February, and 4 March respectively. If you have missed these events, don’t worry. More events are waiting for you!

Various handicraft workshops – including a stamp making workshop, Easter egg decorating workshop, and Korean fan painting workshop – will be held on 8 March, 15 April, and 9 May respectively. Participants will not only learn more about these different forms of art, but will also learn specialized vocabulary related to these arts through the workshops.

Music and Cultural Exchange, St Patrick’s Day Celebration, and Rowan Atkinson’s Comedy will be held on 13 March, 17 March and 28 April respectively. English Teaching Fellow Ms. Azita Kuok noted that she and the other teaching fellows hope to help the students learn more about different cultures and the relationship between English and other cultures of the world.

Gabriel Kummel Carrer, an exchange student from Brazil, participated in the Playing Pool event on 4 March. He said the event was fun and provided a good opportunity to improve English and meet new friends.

Those who are interested in participating in ELC’s Spring Semester Events should sign up on UM Moodle.
