The University of Macau’s (UM) Students Union recently organised a student forum on the improvement of the course enrolment system, after an earlier survey of UM students showed that the system still has a lot of room for improvement. The Students’ Union invited Dean of Students Dr Peter Yu, Registrar Paul Pang, colleagues concerned from the Information and Communication Technology Office, and representatives from some faculties and departments to the forum to hear students’ feedback and suggestions about the system.

Major problems about the enrolment system found through the survey include scheduling conflicts and the lack of sufficient classes for certain courses, inappropriate time arrangements, and system instability.

Dr Peter Yu said during the forum that imperfect enrolment system is a problem that every university has, but he also promised to introduce more advanced enrolment system in the future to better serve the students. Registrar Paul Pang noted that the current problems with the enrolment system are mainly due to the limited resources on the current campus and he believes that after UM moves to the new campus these problems will be solved.
