Zhu Jian, a PhD student of the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Macau (UM), won an Excellent Paper Award, for the second straight time, at the ninth Chinagraph Conference, with his paper entitled “Simulation of Turbulent Water based on PIC/FLIP and Vortex Shedding”.

Chinagraph Conference is a top-level academic conference on computer graphics in China, and it has become an important forum for Chinese scholars in the field of computer graphics.

This year’s conference was attended by more than 280 scholars, experts and postgraduate students from renowned research institutes and universities in China, including the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University, Peking University, Zhejiang University, Nanjing University and Shanghai Jiaotong University. A total of 220 papers were received, covering a variety of research topics on computer graphics. In the end four papers received the Excellent Paper Award. The other three award-winning papers were from Zhejiang University’s State Key Lab of CAD&CG.

In his paper, Zhu Jian presents a hybrid method that integrates PIC/FLIP and Vortex Particle methods into a unified framework to efficiently simulate vortex shedding that happens when fluids flow around internal obstacles. His supervisor Prof. Wu Enhua received the Chinagraph CG Achievements Award at Chinagraph in 2002.

The conference was co-sponsored by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, China Computer Federation, the Chinese Association of Automation, the Chinese Association for System Simulation, China Society of Image and Graphics, China Engineering Graphics Society and Hong Kong Society for Multimedia and Image Computing.
