Iong Kuan Hou, a student at the University of Macau (UM) and a member of the Macao team, won a gold medal in the men’s kumite -67kg (amateurs) mass participation event at the 15th National Games on 8 November. This is the second gold medal won by a UM student at this year’s National Games.
Iong is a student in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Shiu Pong College. He defeated opponents from Zhejiang, Hebei, Shanxi, Guangdong, and Anhui provinces and secured Macao’s third gold medal at this year’s National Games. UM extended congratulations to Iong on his victory, stating that the gold medal is a testament to his hard work and showcases the outstanding performance and sportsmanship of Macao athletes.
Iong expressed his great honour at representing the Macao karate team at the National Games. He thanked the Macao SAR government for supporting the karate team, and acknowledged UM’s Principals’ Recommended Admission Scheme for Outstanding Student-Athletes, which has enabled him to excel in karate while balancing his studies.
