Cheng Yu Tung College (CYTC) of the University of Macau (UM), Meng Xiancheng College of East China Normal University, Chu Kochen Honors College of Zhejiang University, and United College of The Chinese University of Hong Kong jointly organised a summer camp in Yumin County, Tacheng Prefecture, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. The camp provided the students an opportunity to take part in a service-learning project at local schools.

Led by Diane Lu, a resident fellow in CYTC, five UM students participated in the service-learning project. The students from the four universities delivered sharing sessions to over 130 local children from diverse ethnic backgrounds, including Han, Kazakh, Mongolian, and Zhuang. Through these sessions, the students promoted inclusive education across regions and cultures and spread the message of universal love.

Based on the theme ‘Diverse Exploration, Holistic Growth’, the students from the four universities incorporated science, art, cultural heritage, and practical life skills into their sessions. Topics covered included ‘Animal Classification’, ’Basics of Acids and Bases’, ‘Chinese Idioms’, ‘The 24 Solar Terms’, ‘Azulejo’ and ‘Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge’, ‘Anti-Bullying’, ‘Personal Boundaries’, ‘Understanding Emotions’, and ‘Gender Equality’. These sessions broadened the children’s horizons and fostered their holistic development.
