The torch relay for the 12th edition of the World Games took place in Sichuan Province. Nominated by the Macao SAR government, Yonghua Song, rector of the University of Macau (UM), represented Macao as a torchbearer to demonstrate the city’s commitment to international sports and cultural exchange, as well as its dedication to the core values of the World Games: culture, friendship, and solidarity.

This was the first time that the World Games torch relay had been held in Sichuan Province. The flame was carried through Chengdu, Deyang, and Meishan, covering a total distance of 11 kilometres. A total of 120 torchbearers took part, including Olympic champions, leading researchers, industry leaders, community role models, and young representatives. Song expressed his joy at returning to his hometown of Sichuan as an educator to participate in the torch relay. He recalled his early years studying in Sichuan as a crucial period in his personal development, which laid the groundwork for his academic research in electrical engineering. He noted that, in a world full of uncertainty and challenges, it is vital to promote peace and solidarity among humanity, and that this is also the purpose of hosting large-scale sporting events. He also wished the World Games every success.
