The University of Macau (UM) is currently hosting the 2025 International University Basketball Invitational Tournament, which runs from 25 to 29 June. The tournament brings together men’s basketball teams from eight leading universities, including the University of Cambridge, the National University of Singapore, the University of Sydney, Zhejiang University, UM, Seoul National University, Universiti Sains Malaysia, and Ateneo de Manila University. The teams have been divided into two groups to compete for the championship. In the opening match, the UM Men’s Basketball Team secured their first victory against the University of Cambridge with a score of 88 to 58.

In his opening remarks, UM Rector Yonghua Song said that the tournament have brought together outstanding student athletes from leading universities around the world, fully demonstrating the unique ability of sports to connect different countries and cultures. He highlighted that education is not only about imparting knowledge, but also about developing students’ determination, resilience, leadership skills, and modesty through various activities. He expressed hope that all the participating students will learn from each other and make great memories throughout the tournament.

The five-day tournament featured four matches each day. All matches are live streamed on the following social media platforms: UM’s official WeChat channel ‘澳門大學’ and Weibo ‘澳門大學’, and the YouTube channel ‘UM Office of Sports Affairs’.

In addition, UM held a ‘Welcome Dinner & Cultural Night’ for all the participating teams. The event featured performances by the UM Cheerleading Team and talent showcases by all the teams.
