The Orientation Night on October 5 is hailed as one of the most successful shows held on campus.

This annual event, organized by the Student Union of the university, was set in the university's Cultural Centre. The tickets were distributed freely to students three days before the night.

Around 7:50p.m. that evening, many students were lining up at the door of the centre with tickets in their hands. "I am very anxious to get in, I want to know who is the special guest. I hope it could be my favourite singers - Twins," said Winnie Che, a year-one student of the Faculty of Business Administration. On the other hand, a Pre-university student Stephen Tang was expecting to get a prize from the lucky draw. He said that one of the sponsors of the night was the local telecommunication company One Two Free, so he guessed that the prizes may be mobile phones.

The night was opened with a video show celebrating the 20th anniversary of the university. Following that, Vice-Principal of the university, Professor Rui Martins delivered an opening speech.

Then there was a Para-Para Dancing Competition. The hosts chose five students in the audience to join the competition. The winner could receive a mobile phone as a prize. There were also a Karate Performance and Japanese Dancing.

Then came the climax of the night. Towin Mak, a popular Macao singer and a UMac graduate, came to the stage. There were loud and standing acclamations. Many students were waving fluorescent sticks while Mak was singing. There was also a live band performance by five UMac students. One of them heads the university's Music Society.

Finally, the special guest, Patrick Tang, appeared. He is a new rising star in Hong Kong. He sang two old popular songs and a new one. He said that the new song was freshly composed and it was the first time he performed this song to an audience.

The show ended around 10:35p.m. The audience started to leave. 'The night is fantastic. The rundown is well organized," said by Jessica Lo, a year-three student of the Faculty of Law. "The Para-Para dancing Competition is especially wonderful, it is out of my expectation." Most of students were satisfied and felt that the organization of the show was better than last year's.
