A long way to go to the class...

Students are complaining that they need to take almost a ten-minute walk from the bus stop to the new classrooms which are situated at the basement of the library building although they think the new classrooms definitely provide a quiet and comfortable learning environment with new fully-equipped facilities.

Wendy Lam who is in the third year of Japanese Studies (FBA) said, "It's so troublesome for me to hurry from the new classroom back to the classroom up in the main UMAC buildings."

"It's really a long way from the bus stop to the new classrooms in the library building. Luckily I have classes there the whole day. But I have heard a friend saying he needs to run back and forth between the new classrooms and the old ones," said Irene Kok, a year-four FBA Marketing student.

On the other hand, the new classrooms may benefit the students who have their own vehicles. "The distance does not affect me much as I can just park my car outside, but the classroom is too noisy because of the repair work going on," said Mandy Lei, a year-four Communications student.

Timothy Simpson, a professor with FSH, also agreed that the repair work made a lot of noise and kept interrupting his lecture. But he believed it would be finished soon. He said, "I like the new classrooms and I don't think they are too far as I needed to walk a longer distance in the US university."

Ana Leung, a year-four FBA Business Information System student made other comments, "The new classrooms look good but it would be better if the classrooms are not so cold and if computers are provided. As I have a motorbike, the location is not a problem for me."

Indeed, some overseas universities have campuses as large as a town. Rushing to classrooms three blocks away may be a routine for students there. But for UMac students, they have been spoiled by the campus that is so compact!
