Yummy tips around campus
By Rosela Yip

Are campus canteens the only choice for students and staff of the University of Macau (UMac)?

Many UMac students and staff prefer to stay on campus for lunch rather than go somewhere else due to the limited time and traffic inconvenience.

People will simply go to eat in the canteen because it is convenient, fast and prices are also reasonable.

"I have a class at lunch time and there's only a 10-minute break. It's impossible for me to go and eat elsewhere except the canteen," said Tony Ma, a FST student.

In fact, UMac students and staff have got many choices around the campus that take just a five-minute bus ride.

Sun Yet-san Street, just down the hill from the UMac campus, is flanked with numerous Taiwanese restaurants and cafes.

In these cafes, people can enjoy different kinds of milk teas, special drinks and also famous Taiwanese fried chicken and beef noodles.

Moreover, these cafes also provide their customers with a great variety of magazines and newspapers. Students can enjoy a relaxing moment after their lunch.

Take a little walk further, you will find more food stores scattered round the old district of Taipa.

Next to the Provisional Municipal Council of the Islands is the best pork chop bun seller "Tai Lei." Many Hong Kong tourists come to Macau just because they want to taste these famous, scrumptious pork chop buns.

Turn round the corner, you will find a little coffee shop which looks just like an ordinary one you see elsewhere. However, you will find people start queuing up outside it at around 3 p.m. every day. They all come for the freshly baked well-known tarts. The shop is famous for a great variety of them including egg tarts, coconut milk tarts and also the most famous bird nest tarts.

Lots of new food stores have been opened in Taipa, UMac students have a variety of choices to go for lunch other than the university canteens.
