The University of Macau (UM) hosted the 2026 Briefing of the Regional Liaison Network for Hong Kong and Macao of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) today (2 February). The briefing aimed to familiarise researchers in Hong Kong and Macao with NSFC’s latest policies, reform initiatives, and funding priorities, and to further promote the integration of the two regions into the national basic research system.
Ge Wei, vice rector of UM, noted that the liaison network has expanded to 13 member institutions, reflecting NSFC’s recognition of the research capacity and development potential of institutions in Hong Kong and Macao.
The briefing was chaired by Zhou Jiantao, director of the Research Services and Knowledge Transfer Office of UM. Representatives from various NSFC departments delivered presentations on funding policies, reform measures, and application procedures, and engaged in discussions with participants.
Thirteen higher education and research institutions from Hong Kong and Macao participated in the briefing. UM currently serves as the leader institution of the regional liaison network.
