The Department of Integrated Resort and Tourism Management and the Institute for the Study of Commercial Gaming (ISCG) in the Faculty of Business Administration at the University of Macau (UM) organised a study mission to Las Vegas, US, from 20 to 28 May. The study mission aimed to provide students with an immersive learning experience in gaming, integrated resort and tourism management, and inspire them to develop innovative ideas for the development of ‘tourism + sports’ in Macao.

The delegation consisted of 31 students and was led by Miao Li, head of the Department of Integrated Resort and Tourism Management; Huang Huiling, assistant professor in the Department of Integrated Resort and Tourism Management; and Davis Fong, director of ISCG. During the study mission, the students visited several sports complexes in Las Vegas, as well as integrated resorts operated by MGM Resorts International and Wynn Las Vegas. Senior executives of the integrated resorts also hosted sharing sessions, providing the students with valuable industry insights. The visits enabled the students to gain a better understanding of how large-scale sports events can boost tourism development, as well as the operation, event management, facility management, logistics and maintenance of the establishments.

The study mission was supported by the University of Macau Development Foundation, MGM, and Wynn Macau.
