Yonghua Song, rector of the University of Macau (UM) and director of the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City, led a delegation of over 30 UM researchers on a two-day trip to Hong Kong on 6 and 7 June. The delegation visited the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and several technology and innovation institutes. Song also attended the International Science, Technology and Innovation Forum of Boao Forum for Asia 2025 Hong Kong Conference and gave a speech at the event. The trip strengthened the cooperation between Macao and Hong Kong in technology and innovation.
During the trip, Song and Xu Cheng-Zhong, dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, met with Nancy Ip, president of HKUST, and Guo Yike, provost of HKUST. The two parties exchanged views on cooperation between the two universities in areas such as high and new technologies, life sciences, and interdisciplinary research. They also expressed hope for closer collaboration. The UM delegation also visited the Hong Kong Generative AI R&D Center and the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Displays and Optoelectronics Technologies at HKUST. Additionally, the delegation made a visit to the Hong Kong Science Park, and met with several institutes in the park to gain insight into the development of industry-academia collaboration between Hong Kong and the international community.
Furthermore, Song attended the International Science, Technology and Innovation Forum of Boao Forum for Asia 2025 Hong Kong Conference. In his speech, he discussed the application of intelligent and green technologies in smart cities, as well as interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation. He also provided an overview of the two basic research areas and three applied research areas of the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City at UM.
