A\ndelegation from the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, led by Vice\nMinister of Science and Technology Huang Wei, recently visited the University\nof Macau (UM). Huang recognised the outstanding achievements made by the\nuniversity in recent years in education and technological innovation. He also\npointed out that the central government supports the university’s development,\nadding that promoting the development of research universities is beneficial to\ntechnological innovation in Macao.<\/p>
During\nthe meeting, UM Rector Yonghua Song told the guests about the university’s\ndevelopment in higher education and technological innovation. UM is the only\ninternational comprehensive public university in Macao. With the great support\nfrom the central government, the Macao SAR government, and all sectors of\nsociety, the university has produced many outstanding graduates for the SAR\nthrough its \u20184-in-1\u2019 education model. In terms of industry-academia\ncollaboration, UM actively nurtures innovative and entrepreneurial talent\nthrough its national co-working space, as well as the first industry-academia\ndemonstration base in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area established\nthrough the Zhuhai UM Science and Technology Research Institute. UM will\ncontinue to respond to the needs of the country and make full use of its\nstrengths to actively promote technological innovation in Macao and the Greater\nBay Area.<\/p>
Huang\nrecognised the outstanding achievements made by UM in education and\ntechnological innovation in recent years, and was pleased to see the rapid progress\nof the university in scientific research. He pointed out that the central\ngovernment supports UM\u2019s development, and promoting the development of research\nuniversities is beneficial to technological innovation in Macao. He hopes that UM\nwill further accelerate the pace of cultivating world-class talent and building\na platform for technological innovation for Macao and the Greater Bay Area.<\/p>
During\nthe visit, Huang took a test\nride on Macao\u2019s first autonomous bus. He also visited the Centre for Cognitive\nand Brain Sciences, the Super Intelligent Computer Centre, the State Key\nLaboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City (SKL-IOTSC), and the Faculty of\nHealth Sciences (FHS). He was briefed by staff from relevant departments on the\ncurrent development of the centres and the lab, key research projects, and the\nlatest research achievements.<\/p>
Accompanying\nthe delegation were inspector Ruan Xiangping and researchers Zhong Wenyan and\nLiu Yuhui from the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Science\nand Technology; Researcher Li Chunjing from the General Office, Ministry of\nScience and Technology; Ge Wei, vice rector of UM; Chuxia Deng, dean of the FHS\nat UM; Xu Chengzhong, dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology and interim\ndirector of the Institute of Collaborative Innovation at UM; Yang Zhixin,\ndirector of the Research Services and Knowledge Transfer Office at UM; and Ma\nShaodan, assistant director of SKL-IOTSC at UM.<\/p>
