{"id":546916,"date":"2026-05-30T21:06:00","date_gmt":"2026-05-30T13:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.um.edu.mo\/news-and-press-releases\/press-release\/detail\/64113-2\/"},"modified":"2026-05-30T21:06:00","modified_gmt":"2026-05-30T13:06:00","slug":"64113","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.um.edu.mo\/pt-pt\/news-and-press-releases\/press-release\/detail\/64113\/","title":{"rendered":"UM presents Teaching Excellence Award"},"content":{"rendered":"\n                        \n                        <p>At the Congregation 2026 held today (30 May), the\nUniversity of Macau (UM) presented the Teaching Excellence Award for the\n2025\/2026 academic year to Cheris Wing Chi Chow, associate professor in the Department\nof Management and Marketing in the Faculty of Business Administration (FBA), in\nrecognition of her outstanding teaching performance.<\/p>\n\n<p>Every year, the recipient of\nthe UM Teaching Excellence Award is selected by a selection committee from\nnominees, who are faculty-level teaching award recipients, through a rigorous\nprocess. Selection criteria include: teaching philosophy, depth of knowledge in\nthe subject area, outstanding communication skills and teaching effectiveness,\noutstanding contributions to curriculum development, the ability to promote\nstudent learning by stimulating and sustaining the intellectual development of\nstudents, innovative approach to teaching and learning, and leadership in\npromoting teaching excellence within and outside the university.<\/p>\n\n<p>Prof Chow expressed her deep gratitude for receiving the\naward, describing it as profoundly meaningful. She said that the honour represents\nnot only her individual efforts, but also the collective efforts of all those who\nhave supported her along the way. She extended heartfelt thanks to UM for its\ntrust and support, and to her family for their unwavering encouragement and\nunderstanding\u2014both of which have been instrumental in enabling her to thrive in\nher teaching career. Prof Chow particularly thanked her students for their\nengagement, enthusiasm, and active participation in her classes. Their positive\nattitude towards learning reaffirms her belief that the spirit of education\nlives on in those she has inspired and will be carried forward to future\ngenerations. Prof Chow added that she will remain committed to her teaching\nmission: to ignite students\u2019 curiosity, nurture their passion for learning, and\nempower them to discover and realise their boundless potential.<\/p>\n\n<p>Prof Chow joined UM in 2009 and is currently an associate\nprofessor in the Department of Management and Marketing in FBA. She holds bachelor\u2019s,\nmaster\u2019s, and PhD degrees in marketing from City University of Hong Kong. Her\nresearch papers have been published in leading international journals,\nincluding the <i>Journal of International\nBusiness Studies<\/i> and the <i>Journal of Applied\nPsychology<\/i>. She was awarded the FBA Outstanding Research Award for the\n2024\/2025 academic year. Prof Chow has also received best paper awards at\ninternational conferences held in Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland, and the US. In\naddition to her teaching role in FBA, Prof Chow is actively engaged in\nprofessional development and executive training for the business and\nhospitality sectors. She was awarded the Outstanding Teaching Award from the UM\nCentre for Continuing Education in 2023, 2024, and 2025, in recognition of her outstanding teaching\nperformance and\ncontributions to
