Strive Forward and Achieve Beyond.<\/p>\n\n

\u2018Strive Forward and Achieve Beyond\u2019 is the theme of the University of\nMacau\u2019s (UM) 45th anniversary. The phrase \u2018Strive Forward\u2019 originates from the\nchapter Conduct of the Scholar in the Chinese classic Book of Rites.\nIts original meaning\u2014steadfast practice leads to far-reaching achievements\u2014celebrates\nperseverance, determination, and freedom from empty rhetoric. It reminds us\nthat lasting success can only be achieved through sustained and purposeful\naction. Today, we draw on this enduring wisdom and imbue it with contemporary\nmeaning: only through continuous exploration and courageous innovation can we\nopen new horizons and achieve beyond expectations. This spirit not only defines\nthis milestone year, but also encapsulates UM\u2019s journey over the past four and\na half decades\u2014and illuminates the path ahead.<\/p>\n\n

For UM, steadfastness has always been rooted in a clear academic vision,\na deep sense of social responsibility, and the strong support of the country\nand the SAR government. From its early days as the University of East Asia,\nthrough its transformative relocation to the main campus in Hengqin and\nsubsequent leap in development, to its emergence today as a globally\ncompetitive and internationally recognised university, UM has remained\nunwavering in its commitment to advancing as a comprehensive research-oriented\nuniversity of international standing. Over the past 45 years, we have steadily\nadvanced higher education and research innovation, contributing intellectual\nstrength to both regional and national development.<\/p>\n\n

In recent years, this spirit of perseverance has been fully embodied in\nour research endeavours. UM has continuously strengthened its research\necosystem, expanded its infrastructure, and provided robust support for\ncutting-edge scholarship. Central to this progress is the university\u2019s \u20183+3+3+3\u2019\nstrategic research layout: three state key laboratories, three emerging\nresearch fields, three interdisciplinary research areas, and three research\nplatforms in the humanities and social sciences. This well-structured research\nsystem has consolidated high-level research capacity and generated a series of\nimpactful achievements in key areas. Our academic influence and international\nreputation have continued to grow. More importantly, we have aligned research\ninnovation with societal needs\u2014supporting Macao\u2019s economic diversification and\ncontributing to the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay\nArea.<\/p>\n\n

Forty-five years marks both a milestone and a new beginning. With\ngratitude for the past and confidence in the future, UM moves forward with\nrenewed purpose. We will continue to uphold our academic ideals and deepen\ninnovation-driven development. By cultivating higher-calibre talent and\nadvancing higher-level research, we will serve the country\u2019s development\nstrategy and contribute meaningfully to society. Guided by perseverance and\ninspired by vision, UM will continue to strive forward and achieve beyond.<\/p>
