In line with\nthe Macao SAR government\u2019s policy to build a better Macao by strengthening\neducation and nurturing professionals to meet the needs of society, the\nUniversity of Macau (UM) in the 2019\/2020 academic year will launch five new\nbachelor\u2019s degree programmes in education, science, precision medicine, big\ndata and business intelligence respectively, to nurture high-calibre\nprofessionals who can fulfill the different needs of Macao and contribute to\nthe development of the Greater Bay Area with the latest technologies.<\/p>
The five new\nundergraduate programmes are: Bachelor of Science in Business Intelligence and\nData Analytics offered by the Faculty of Business Administration, Bachelor of\nEducation in Integrated Science offered by the Faculty of Education, Bachelor\nof Science in Bioinformatics offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences, as well\nas Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics and Chemistry and Bachelor of Science\nin Mathematics (Statistics and Data Science) offered by the Faculty of Science\nand Technology. The programmes are now in the process of registration and will\nbe launched officially after they are published in the Official Gazette of the\nMacao SAR.<\/p>
Brief information about the new programmes is as follows:<\/p>
l \nBachelor of Science in Business\nIntelligence and Data Analytics: The programme is suitable for secondary school\ngraduates from all streams (arts\/science\/commerce). Graduates of the programme\nwill be equipped with knowledge and skills in business management, IT\napplication and data analytics, and can pursue a career in business or public\nsector as business analysts or database developers.<\/p>
l \nBachelor of Education in\nIntegrated Science: The programme is structured to provide training in science\neducation by integrating the areas of physics, chemistry, and biology. Its\nfoundation is centered on integrated science with specialisation in physics,\nchemistry or biology. The goal of the programme is to nurture qualified junior\nand senior secondary school teachers in Macao. Graduates of the programme will be\nqualified to become teachers in Macao.<\/p>
l \nBachelor of Science in\nBioinformatics: The programme covers the research and analytical tools of\ncomputer science, information technology and statistics in order to help students\nsolve problems using biological data. The objective of the programme is to\nnurture professionals in bioinformatics. Graduates of the programme can pursue\na career in the medical sector related to biomedical, pharmaceutical and\nbiotechnological fields.<\/p>
l \nBachelor of Science in\nMathematics (Statistics and Data Science): This programme will equip students\nwith solid knowledge in mathematics and professional skills in statistical analysis\nand data science management, to meet the demand for talent in the field of big\ndata in smart cities. Graduates can pursue a career in statistics, data\nscience, or information technology.<\/p>
l \nBachelor of Science in Applied\nPhysics and Chemistry: The\nprogramme provides students with a comprehensive training in the foundations of\nphysics and chemistry, with a focus on interdisciplinary applications. The\nscope of study involves various scientific and\nengineering disciplines (materials science, environmental science, biomedical\nscience and engineering, electronics, mechanical and manufacturing engineering)\nas well as issues related to global challenges such as energy production,\nhealth and well-being, food safety, and the use of natural resources. Graduates\ncan pursue a career in science, engineering, research, and education-related\nfields.<\/p>

UM\u2019s\nundergraduate programmes will open for entrance examination applications on 3\nJanuary. The deadline for application is 18 January.
