The\nUniversity of Macau (UM) and Tsinghua University have signed an agreement on\nthe joint training of postdoctoral scholars. According to the agreement, UM and\nTsinghua will jointly fund postdoctoral programmes, with the combined strengths\nand resources of the two universities in certain disciplines, including\nengineering, materials science, information science, and life science. The two\nuniversities will collaborate in cutting-edge research and postdoctoral\ntraining, in order to promote the development of strategic scientific research\nin China.<\/p>
The agreement\nsigning ceremony was held at Tsinghua University. UM Rector Yonghua Song and\nTsinghua University Vice President Zheng Li signed the agreement on behalf of\ntheir universities. Zheng mentioned the solid foundation in collaboration\nbetween the two universities, as reflected in the frequent exchange of faculty\nand students. He hopes that collaboration in postdoctoral training will help\nboth universities explore new modes of collaboration in the development of\nacademic disciplines and in scientific research, further enhance Tsinghua\u2019s\ncommunication and collaboration with UM and Macao, and promote the joint\ndevelopment of both institutions.<\/p>
Song says\nthat with the great support of the central and Macao SAR governments, UM has\nmade significant progress in creating better conditions for teaching and\nlearning, in developing an outstanding faculty team, and in scientific\nresearch. He believes that the collaboration agreement with Tsinghua University\nwill enable UM to participate in China\u2019s cutting-edge scientific research\nprojects, thereby providing a foothold from which the university can further\nintegrate into the Greater Bay Area and the rest of China and become more\ninternationalised. Song hopes Tsinghua will continue to support UM\u2019s development.\n <\/p>
\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBoth universities have been\nintensifying efforts in innovation and technology and have been actively\ninvolved in the construction of the International Innovation and Technology Hub\nin the Greater Bay Area. In recent years, UM has achieved fruitful and\ninternationally impactful results in scientific research, and has garnered maters\nin various disciplines and high-calibre researchers. In addition, UM has\nestablished three state key laboratories, in microelectronics, Chinese\nmedicine, and the Internet of Things for smart cities, respectively. The\nuniversity continuously explores new research areas, with leading achievements\nin precision medicine for tumour treatment, advanced materials, cognitive\nneuroscience, and artificial intelligence. Tsinghua University has achieved\npioneering achievements in major basic research projects, strategic high-tech\nproducts, and serving economic development. Many of its academic disciplines\nare either ranked among the top in China or enjoy great renown internationally.\nIn addition, Tsinghua University makes an active effort to commercialise the\nresults of scientific research in the areas or companies with which the\nuniversity is in a collaborative relationship.<\/p>
